SI Alternative Spring Break 2010
Annually, the University of Michigan School of Information hosts an Alternative Spring Break (ASB) program around the last week of February or the first week of March. For over twelve years, this program has placed interested and motivated School of Information students, during the week of Spring Break, in professional work environments in the public sector. Students obtain positions at non-profit, cultural, governmental, and educational institutions in Chicago, Detroit, New York City, Chicago, and Washington D.C.
Interested host Organizations should view information found on the For Organizations page to learn more about what is expected, obligations, benefits, and how to participate by hosting a student or group of students. To participate, organizations register and submit projects related to the areas that are being studied at the School of Information (SI) and in return, are matched with fully-funded students who work on site during the week of spring break.
Interested School of Information Students should join the SI ASB Interest listserv as this is the main method of communication about the SI ASB program. To do so, go to the UM Online Directory, search for SIASB-Interest and add your uniquname or email address to the listserv. Students can also view the Student Application page to learn about the application process and logistical details.
Both students and organizations can learn about past participating organizations, projects, and read about the student experience via the SI ASB blog by exploring this website. To gain information on SI ASB prior to 2010, go to past SI-ASB organization, projects, and listings.
