Cookery Project to revise LCSH for an entire class of materials collected by many public, private, and academic libraries across the country.
This is a major revision project to provide modernization of subject terminology that will affect access to cookbooks and materials on cooking traditions, history, and practices, which comprise a large proportion of library collections throughout the country. The project will enhance and simplify access to materials on cooking for users.
The student will submit proposals directly to the Library’s database, and will analyze all headings to revise all appropriate broader, narrower and related terms. The project cannot be done by software, and requires human analysis of subject headings and relationships.
The project consists of the following activities:
- identifying LCSH terms to be revised
- submitting proposals
- analyzing LCSH terms for broader, narrower, and related terminology to be revised
- submitting proposals for broader, narrower, and related terms according to identified standards and patterns.
Attention to detail is helpful. Familiarity with a subject area is helpful.
